Burn Policy
(Burn Indemnification Agreement)
The purpose of this policy is to allow property owners the opportunity to economically remove and dispose of damaged or undesirable brush, trees, leaves, and other vegetation while maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the community.
Time and Conditions of a BURN: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires:
Please Note:
What may and may not be burned:
- A burning is not to commence earlier than one hour after sunrise and be completed on the same day no later than one hour before sunset
- Burning shall not be commenced when surface wind speed is predicted to be less than six (6) mph or greater than twenty-three (23) mph during the burn period
- Business waste may not be burned
Please Note:
- No burning of any kind is permitted in The Hills Above Possum Kingdom when a Burn Ban is in effect
- The Burn Ban status at the Hills is the same as the Burn Ban for Palo Pinto County (also on the 'News' tab)
- The property owner is expected to follow the TCEQ guidelines posted above
- No burn is allowed without prior notification and approval from Palo Pinto Country Sheriff’s Office (940-659-2085)
- The property owner must complete the Burn Form prior to the proposed burn
- The completed Form must be returned by clicking the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the form
- The notice is valid only for the days shown on the form weather permitting
- A typical burn approval is limited to not more than a week
- A large perimeter around the burn area must be mowed in advance of a burn
- Fires must be always attended until such time as the fire is deemed out
- A water truck and/or grader must be always on hand during the burn

- What may be burned: brush, trees, grasses, leaves, debris
- What may NOT be burned: electrical insulation, treated lumber, plastics, non-wood materials, chemical wastes and items containing natural or synthetic rubber
